The Journey

Sydney rounded the curve in the road and plowed through a cloud of fog to see the pick-up and sailboat in front of her. They weren't going the speed limit. Needing to get to her appointment on time, she crept over the double yellow line to see ahead. Nothing was coming from the other direction that she could see. She hit the gas and began passing.

Harold slowed down as he neared one of many curves in the road. He was always a cautious driver. He never liked wet roads or the rolling fog. A yard ahead he saw the moose standing at the side of the road. Not knowing when the animal might decide to cross, he slowed the Silverado to almost a crawl.

Sydney's head was pounding. She rubbed her temple with her left hand and blinked. She could barely see. There was an explosion in her head. Everything went black and she slumped forward.

As the moose turned to go back into the words, Harold put his foot to the gas pedal. Hearing an approaching vehicle, he glanced in the rearview mirror. The Sundance was coming straight for him at a fast pace. It rammed him in the rear, knocking him sideways.

The Sundance skidded across the road and stopped.
